Wound not Wounded

Brief:

1 week brief, that was concept led. We were asked to take a short walk in our local area, observe our surroundings and create a map diagram that reflects the location with its wider context.

My response:

I live in Finsbury Park so I walked down a street I rarely interact with, the end of the street is home to the Andover and Six Acres Estates and around this area I felt a strong sense of community so I chose to research and observe this further. The area surrounding the estates is home to a food bank, church, a school, multiple care-homes, houses, shared spaces and community organisations. There was a clear boiling over of the community feeling at the very edge of the estate and initially I used arrows to indicate this but overtime this visual developed into wire as I reflected on the connotations scaffolding and blood vessels.
This map captures the community around Durham Road, the location of numerous council estates, specifically the Andover and Six Acres Estates. Despite having faced huge amounts of crime and violence and been repeatedly fed false promises by the council, there is a distinct community rebuilding itself and its reputation. Their history is important and attached but equally they should be given the opportunity to detach themselves from it.
