The Impact of Reading

I produced prototypes for a series of booklets in response to a quote from Reading and the Body by Thomas McLaughlin in which my interpretation led me to disagree with McLaughlins ideas of the evanescence of reading. I instead believe reading has incredible power and long lasting impact, highlighted by these metaphoric booklets.

Mind

Reading leaves traces on people’s minds. It can be mind moulding, mind expanding, mind manipulating, mind opening or even mind deteriorating. The tissue paper in this booklet will gradually crease, break and rip as it is re-read.

Build Your Read

People use books to develop the way they think, act and live. Thoughts, advice and ideas taken by the reader for them to build on, perhaps their home life, environment or what they spend their money on.

The Book as the Community

You are not the first to read something nor will you be the last. Books are made for people and for sharing. This booklet makes the sharing of reading material visible.
